In classical Ayurvedic texts, Bhringraj (Eclipta alba) is called Keshraj, the “king of hair”. For generations, Indian households have used Bhringraj-infused oils as part of a weekly hair-oiling ritual passed down from grandmother to grandchild.
Why Bhringraj is so valued
- Nourishes the scalp: regular massage with Bhringraj oil helps keep the scalp healthy and moisturised.
- Supports stronger hair: it is traditionally used to reduce breakage and support healthy growth.
- Adds natural shine: oiling conditions the hair shaft, leaving hair soft and manageable.
- Calms the mind: a slow head massage is deeply relaxing and is said to support restful sleep.
How to oil your hair the Ayurvedic way
Warm a few teaspoons of oil gently. Part your hair into sections and apply the oil to the scalp with your fingertips. Massage in slow circular movements for five to ten minutes, then work the remaining oil through the lengths. Leave it on for at least an hour, or overnight, before washing with a mild cleanser.
Pair it with pure coconut oil
Coconut oil is light, cooling and easily absorbed, which makes it an ideal everyday base for scalp care. Cold-pressed, 100% pure coconut oil, free from minerals and fragrance, helps reduce dryness and roughness and keeps hair soft and smooth.
Oil two to three times a week and be patient. Ayurvedic hair care rewards consistency.
