How Triphala Supports Gut Health Naturally

Published on October 22, 2026

Triphala literally means “three fruits”. It is one of Ayurveda’s most widely used formulations, a balanced blend of Amla, Haritaki and Bibhitaki. Together they are said to balance all three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.

The three fruits

  • Amla is cooling and rich in vitamin C. It supports digestion and rejuvenation.
  • Haritaki is revered as the “king of medicines” and supports regular, comfortable elimination.
  • Bibhitaki supports healthy digestion and the respiratory system.

How Triphala supports your gut

Triphala is traditionally used to support healthy digestion, promote regular bowel movements and aid the body’s natural detoxification. Its antioxidant properties also contribute to overall well-being, healthy skin and eye health.

How to take it

Triphala is commonly taken as tablets or as a juice. A classical approach is to take it in the evening, about an hour after dinner, with warm water. Begin with a small amount and follow the dosage on the pack, or as advised by your Ayurvedic practitioner.

Support it with a gut-friendly routine

  • Eat your largest meal at midday, when digestion is strongest.
  • Sip warm water through the day instead of iced drinks.
  • Chew slowly and avoid eating late at night.
  • Add digestive spices such as cumin, fennel and ginger to your cooking.
